Once every 500 Years

They say that the total solar eclipse we had today at 9:36 AM will not happen again in Shanghai for another 500 years. To celebrate we had some friends over to enjoy total darkness in the morning! We had planned to go to a park to really see the sun get covered by the moon. But it was raining! Drat. As the past two weeks here have been blue skies!

Above is Mei sporting the special eclipse sunglasses that you are suppose to wear while looking into the sun!
It is not midnight but 9:36 AM! The total darkness lasted for about five minutes. Then it got light again. It took a full hour for the sun to come back to "full power".
I hope the kids remember this! We had a lot of fun!

Hi Emily,

We just got high speed internet out here on the farm so I actually accessed your blog. What fun! It's great to hear what all is going on in your life.
