A new name
Our whole family have Chinese names. The kids use these names in school- in fact their teachers do not know their "real" English names. So we wanted a very special name for our "real" Chinese baby! The problem was, Joab and I could not agree! We had many things we wanted to convey in her Chinese name- and just could not agree.
We asked a lot of our friends and today finally finalized the name!
周 Zhou- (pronounced like Joe) - this is our last name in Chinese
韵 Yun- this is also the first character in Miriam's name. Traditionally all the girls in the family would have part of their names the same. We wanted to go this route. Yun means rhythm in a musical way. We used this word with Miriam- because Miriam in the Bible lead the women of Israel in dancing after they crossed the Red Sea
涵 Han- This is the new word we were looking for! It means self-restraint. It also implies a quiet strength from within. Our friend put it this way to us: "This quality would be in the wife of a King". That sealed the deal for me!
So there you have it 周韵涵 a big name for a sweet little gal.
